Wave Watch
unregimented, uneven
in slap-dash ranks spaced erratically
we see them uniform at first, but they aren’t
they come for us because they must
to be for us and themselves what otherwise they couldn’t
and we couldn’t. The moving mass of sun and moon
the rage and whisper of winds
the slap of waves a thousand miles and years away
draw them on us, swallowing our sandy feet
ankles, knees, thighs
then draw back as though
we and they were finished, content.

Interesting use of military terms blended with nature references. Life has a cadence, like music, requires the same sort of inevitable resolution…at least we want it to.
“They come for us because they must…” Reading a poem is like watch waves. They and we become us, a felt sublime all around duality. Non-duality. Not nature as apart from us, there to be used and abused. Thanks, Craig. Like music.
