Exiting the News
The News cannot be covered, only hinted
in stark grey glimpses of its huge body
a dead whale found on a beach
defaced with graffiti, pieces cut away
for no obvious reason except malice
the bad universal taking over whole nations, continents
from our gentler, more fragile nature
until building up no longer even sometimes
takes the News from tearing down
this stretch of beach is sooner emptied
by scavengers and dump trucks than by tides
and of course, by stink and lack of interest
empty beach is the real news
having no idea how beautiful it is
how enticing to distressed whales
even now a month later
in this slipping away from us
as every now does, unless
we’re mistaking our leaving for its
