poems as hand- and foot-holds on a glass mountain

Yorick’s Party, Alas

Old jokes, old faces pulled

bawdy laughter’s body limp with drink

reason in a blank sleep

the reptile brain alone decides elections

a late surge in key races leathery and ancient

lizards once more voted in

Who is surprised?

Dead for centuries an empty skull

still sweeps the rascals in

a wink, a nod, a small donation

a blind eye to our reputation

I like the mix of ancient and modern in this one. Leathery lizards, an ancient skull and an “election”.
