poems as hand- and foot-holds on a glass mountain

A Three-Legged Race

Reading a poem can be like this
reader and writer one leg bound in text
together only sort of, joined at hip
hurrying before they lose all interest

reader and writer one leg bound in text
the way before them stranger than first seems
hurrying before they lose all interest
a patch of sun and wind, of field and stream

the way before them stranger than first seems
a field of couples naked but discrete
a patch of sun and wind, of field and stream
sharing a look at other reader’s read

a field of couples naked but discrete
we’ll know their faces then but now do not
sharing a look at other readers’ read
partnerships still forming but forgot

we’ll know their faces then but now do not
apart from comprehension’s favored end
wild partnerships still forming but forgot
now come upon as is, was, cherished when

poetry is seen to read like this.

A pantoum with a backdoor. An ode to poetry. Love it.
